TRAVEL: Hotel Torino Wellness & Spa Diano Marina

Het voordeel aan een vakantie is dat je daarna veel blogmateriaal hebt. Vorige week kon je al lezen dat we aan de Côte D'Azur verbleven. Van daaruit zijn we vervolgens doorgereden naar de Italiaanse Bloemen Riviera. Daar verbleven we in hotel Torino in het stadje Diano Marino.

The advantage of going on a holiday is that you come home with lots of blogging material. Last week you could already read about our stay at the Côte d'Azur. Thereafter we travelled further to the Italian Flower Riviera. Hotel Torino in the small town Diano Marino was the place in which we stayed.

Het onthaal was bijzonder hartelijk en in tegenstelling tot veel Italianen, konden deze receptionistes uitstekend Engels. Je merkten dat deze mensen kennis van zaken hadden en vlotjes alles uitlegden. Vervolgens werden we begeleidt naar onze ruime kamer.

We were welcomed very warmly and in opposition to many Italians, these receptionists spoke English fluently. You immediately feel like this people know their job and give you all the information you need right away. Afterwards we were guided to our room.

De kamer was heel proper en modern ingericht. Er stonden enkele lekkernijen op ons te wachten en een zalig bed. De badkamer was voorzien van een regendouche, hier kon ik echt uren onder blijven staan. In de badkamer is ingericht met marmer, waarom hebben bloggers hier zo een crush op eigenlijk !?

The room was very clean and modern. A few lovely delicacies were awaiting us and an amazing bed as well. The bath room is foreseen with a rain shower, I could have stayed underneath it for hours. A lot of marble is used in the decoration of the bath room. What is it with bloggers and marble anyway!?

Het ontbijt vond elke ochtend plaats op de bovenste verdieping waar je een uitzicht op zee hebt. Het ontbijt was tip top in orde, ik kan echt geen minpunt bedenken. Er waren verschillende soorten kazen, broodjes, croissants, beleg confituur, yoghurt, fruit, eieren en ga zo nog maar eventjes door. Als kers op de kaart was er elke dag een super lieve dame die verse pannenkoeken en omeletten bereidde. Wow super gewoon!

The breakfast takes place each morning on the top floor which will provide you with a view on the sea. The breakfast was just perfect, I can't think of any drawbacks. There were different kind of cheeses, rolls, croissants, marmalade, yoghurt, fruit, eggs and so on. As icing on the cake there was a super nice lady preparing fresh pancakes and omelettes each day. This hotel knows the way to my heart!

Een dikke pluim trouwens voor de volledige personeelsgroep. Stuk voor stuk waren deze mensen heel behulpzaam, vriendelijk en goed geïnformeerd. Andere accommodaties waar je gebruik van kunt maken: parking bij hotel, een spa & wellness, indien gewenst kan je in het hotel à la carte dineren. 

Kudos to the complete staff by the way. Each and every one of them was so helpful, friendly and well informed. Other accommodations provided by the hotel: parking nearby, a spa & wellness and you can have dinner à la carte.

Ook de ligging van het hotel is geweldig. Op enkele honderden meters wandelen, ligt het commercieel centrum van het kleine maar gezellige Diano Marino. Ondanks het feit dat het hotel redelijk groot was, had je toch geen geluidsoverlast. 

The location of the hotel is on point as well. The city centre is only a small walk away. Although the hotel was quite big, we had no complaints about noise disturbance.

TRAVEL: Nice - Cannes - Saint Tropez - Monaco - Genova

NICE

Nice leek me beetje een dode stad al kan dit ook te maken hebben met het feit dat het die dag pijpenstelen regende. Je kunt er best op een zondag naartoe gaan zoals mij zodat je kunt genieten van de prachtige bloemenmarkt. Hou er wel rekening mee dat in het centrum niet alle winkels open zijn op zondag.

Wat doen?

• Kuier op zondag door het oude stadsgedeelte en geniet van de prachtige architectuur, de lokale bloemen- en delicatessenmarkt of  geniet van een overheerlijke maaltijd aan de rand van het marktplein. 
• Bezoek het Place de Messana en bewonder de open ruimte en de enorme fontein. 
• Kuier langs Promenade des Anglais. Zien en gezien worden is hier het motto.
• Nice heeft ook een eigen Galerie des Lafayette. Dit winkelcentrum is zeker niet zo groot als zijn tegenhanger in Parijs maar toch wel de moeite waard.

Nice looked like a death city to me although that may be due to the heavy rain fall of that day. The preferable day to visit Nice is Sunday because there's a gorgeous flower market on that day. Take into account that some clothing stores are closed on Sunday.

What to do?

• Walk through the old city on a Sunday and enjoy the gorgeous architecture, the local flower- and food market or have a delicious meal in one of the many restaurants on the market square.
• Visit the Place de Messana and admire the open space and the gigantic fountain.
• Stroll along the Promenade des Anglais. Look at other people and be looked at yourself.
• Nice has its own Galerie de Lafayette. This shopping centre may not be as big as its brother in Paris but definitely worth a visit. 

Cannes

Cannes verandert éénmaal per jaar in de speeltuin van de filmsterren maar vorige week was het mijn beurt om de iconische kuststad te ontdekken. Tip: trek toch een wat chiquere outfit aan om je thuis te voelen ;-)

• Poseer voor de beroemde trappen van het  Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. Deze trappen worden elk jaar beklommen door de groten der aarden.
• Wandel de volledige Croisette af en geniet van het azuurblauwe water. Nergens aan de Côte d'Azur is het water zo helder als in Cannes.
• Ga een kijkje nemen in de luxe boetieks van Chanel, Dior,... Zalig om de cruise collecties in levende leven te aanschouwen. Als je van de Croisette weg wandelt, vind je ook een groot aanbod aan betaalbare winkels.
• Voor een betaalbaar en lekker hapje, moet je naar Rue d'Antibes. Uiteraard kan je ook eten bij één van de vele strandclubs, door de hevige wind en de woeste zee was dit niet mogelijk toen ik in Cannes was.

Once a year Cannes turns into the play garden of movie stars but last week it was my turn to discover the iconic beach town. Tip: put on a fancier outfit to feel at home ;-)

• Pose in front of the famous stairs of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. These stairs are each year being climbed by the most famous people on earth.
• Stroll across the Croisette and enjoy the azure blue water. Nowhere on the Côte d'Azur the water looks as bright as in Cannes.
• Take a look into the luxurious stores such as Chanel, Dior,... It was wonderful to discover the Cruise collections with my own eyes. If you walk away from the Croisette, you'll definitely find quite some affordable stores as well.
• If you want to have an affordable meal, hit the Rue d'Antibes. Of course you can eat at one of the many beach bars as well, unfortunately this was not possible when I was there because of the wind and the wild sea. 

Saint-Tropez

Saint-Tropez, het kleine vissersdorpje dat plots wereldberoemd werd dankzij Brigitte Bardot. Zeker en vast ook mijn favoriet aan de Côte d'Azur. Aan de haven is een grote parking waar je goedkoop kunt parkeren en de stad is vlakbij gelegen. Als je in het hoogseizoen gaat, kan je beter met de boot gaan omdat de kleine straatjes richting Saint-Tropez komen vast te zitten.

• Ga op dinsdag of zondag naar Saint-Tropez en geniet van de markt op de Place des Lices. Ik ben al naar veel marktjes geweest maar deze is zeker en vast de mooiste. Koop lokale specialiteiten, prachtige bobo juweeltjes of vers fruit en groenten. Tip: helemaal achteraan zitten een aantal kraampjes verscholen met prachtige vintage designer spullen.
• Zet je op een terrasje aan de haven en bekeek de jachten van de rijken. 
• Geniet van een overheerlijk hapje aan de Place des Lices waar een heleboel legendarische cafés en restaurants gevestigd zijn. 
• Ga naar de Dior winkel waar je ook van een luxe gangenmenu kunt genieten.
• Kuier door de kleine winkelstraatjes, daar zijn de tofste en de meest unieke spulletjes verkrijgbaar.
• Ga voor een ijsje bij Barbarac, gevestigd aan de haven. Mijn tip: de Oreo smaak. Justin Bieber werd hier onder andere onlangs gespot.

Saint-Tropez, the small fishers town that became world famous thanks to Brigitte Bardot. Definitely my favourite place on the Côte d'Azur. There's a cheap parking space at the port which is nearby the city centre. If you go in the summer, I would advise to go by boat because the small streets leading to Saint-Tropez get stuck by traffic.

• Go on a Tuesday or a Sunday to Saint-Tropez and enjoy the market on the Place des Lices. I have been to many markets but this was definitely the most special one. Buy local specialities, gorgeous bobo jewellery or fresh fruit and vegetables. Tip: At the back are a few stands with lovely vintage designer stuff.
• Sit on a terrace at the port and have a look at the boats of the rich ones.
• Enjoy a delicious bite on the Place des Lices where quite some well-known cafes and restaurants are situated.
• Go to the Dior store, you can enjoy a splendid meal in their restaurant as well.
• Stroll through the small shopping streets which offer the nicest and most unique stuff.
• Have an ice cream at Barbarac located at the port. My tip: the oreo taste. Justin Bieber was spotted here recently.

Monaco

Aan Monaco hield ik een dubbel gevoel over. Monaco Ville, de oude vestigingsstad, is oogstrelend en één van de mooiste plaatsen waar ik al geweest ben. Als je terug afzakt van de rots tot beneden aan de haven, vind ik de sfeer gemaakt en koud. Voor mij is het niet meer als een stuk grond waar zo veel mogelijk appartementen zijn neer geplant voor de rijken.

• Ga naar het oude stadsgedeelte, Monaco Ville, en geniet van de prachtige gebouwen.
• Voor € 8 kan je de Koninklijk Paleis bezoeken. Dit is zeker en vast een aanrader. Dankzij de gratis en vooral heel interessante audiogids krijg je een goed beeld van de Grimaldi dynastie.
• Je kunt ook best gaan eten in de Monaco Ville. Overheerlijke en authentieke restaurants en betaalbaar! 
• Geniet van het uitzicht dat je vanaf Monaco Ville hebt op de haven.
• Aan de andere kant van de stad vind je het Monte Carlo casino terug. Het enige spoortje van pracht en praal dat ik doorheen de volledige stad verwacht had.

Looking back on my visit to Monaco I have mixed feelings. Monaco Ville, the old city, is beautiful and definitely one of the prettiest places I've ever been to. If you go down the rock again to the port, I feel like the atmosphere changes into something fake and cold. To me Monaco is not more than a town filled with as much living space as possible to accommodate the rich ones. 

• Visiting the old city centre, Monaco Ville, is a must because of the gorgeous buildings.
• For merely €8 you can visit the Royal Palace. I can for sure advise this. Thanks to the free and interesting audio guide you get a brief look into the Grimaldi dynasty.
• Have lunch at Monaco Ville as well. Delicious, authentic and affordable restaurants!
• Enjoy the view you have on the port.
• On the other side of town is Monte Carlo casino. The only trace of splendour and luxury I had expected to see all over Monaco.

Genova

Genua wordt ook wel de donkere stad genoemd ondanks het glorierijke verleden. Genua was één van de grootste havensteden in de Middeleeuwen en deze rijkdom is goed bewaard gebleven. De referentie "donkere stad" komt vooral doordat sommige gebouwen zo dicht op elkaar gebouwd zijn dat er talloze kleine steegjes ontstaan zijn. Voor geschiedenis liefhebbers is een bezoek aan deze stad een must. 

• Begin je bezoek aan de stad op het Piazza De Ferrari, van daaruit zit je een beetje centraal om zowel het commercieel als historisch centrum te bezoeken.
• Genua is de geboortestad van Christoffel Columbus en je kunt dan ook zijn huis gaan bezoeken. Bespaar je de € 3 inkom want binnen in valt er echt niets te zien. 
• Bezoek de San Lorenzo kathedraal. Hieruit kan je vaak afleiden hoe rijk een stad vroeger was en geloof mij: Genova was heel rijk. Aan de achterkant van de kathedraal vind je ook de toegang tot het museo del Tesoro. In dit museum vind je een aantal religieuze artefacten zoals een stuk van het echte Kruis van Jezus. Helaas was dit op het ogenblik van mijn bezoek uitgeleend.  

Genova is also called the dark city in spite of its glorious past. Genova homed one of the biggest ports during the Middle Ages and its wealth was well kept. The term "dark city" refers to the fact that most buildings are right next to each other and therefore a lot of small alleys got created. If you are a history fan, visiting this city is a must.

• Start your tour through the city of the Piazza De Ferrari, this a central point from which you can visit both the commercial and historical centre.
• Genova is the birth place of Christoffel Columbus and it's possible to visit the house in which he grew up. Safe the €3 entrance fee though  because there's not much to see inside the house.
• Visit the San Lorenzo cathedral. Religion buildings often reflect the former wealth of a city and believe me: Genova used to be very rich. At the back of the cathedral you'll find the entrance to the Museo del Tesoro. In this museum a couple of religious artefacts are being showcased such as a part of the real Cross of Jesus. Unfortunately this was not in display when I was in Genova.
