OUTFIT: Summer time in Lucca

Time for another diary entry from Tuscany. Today we visited Lucca which is known for its old city walls and amfitheater. Personally I didn't find the city that exciting. On the plus side I scored some Nike sneakers on sale ;-) Tonight we are staying in Palazzo San Lorenzo for one night, check out my preview from this hotel here. Tomorrow we'll be visiting Siena and probably Volterra. Volterra is the city where some scenes for the Twilight movies were shot. Remember the scary Volturis in the movie? Hopefully I don't run into them!

Nederlands: Tijd voor weeral een dagboekverslag van Toscane. Vandaag bezochten we Lucca, deze stad is bekend voor zijn oude stadsmuren en amfitheater. Persoonlijk vond ik de stad niet zo wow. Gelukkig scoorde ik er wel Nike sneakers in de solden ;-) Vannacht  verblijven we in het Palazzo San Lorenzo, hier kan je nog eens mijn preview van dit hotel lezen. Morgen zullen we Siena en waarschijnlijk Volterra bezoeken. Volterra is de stad waar enkele scenes van de Twilight trilogie zijn gefilmd. Denk maar aan de enge Volturis in de film! Hopelijk kom ik hun morgen niet tegen!

OUTFIT: At another altitude

Another lovely day in Tuscany has come to its end. This is also our last night in hotel Boston and the city of Montecatini. Tomorrow we will be moving on for one night to an amazing hotel nearby Lucca. Today we visited Pisa in the morning. Yes, I did manage to keep the famous tower steady ;-) Apart from the tower and the Duomo there is not that much to see in Pisa. Some cute, little streets and some small shops. Therefore we only stayed a couple of hours.

I'm really in love with Tuscany so far but all the sightseeing is also quite exhausting. You can imagine that I was really pleased to spend the afternoon at the swimming pool and working on my tan. In the evening we visited Montecatini Alto. This is the older part from our town on a very high hill. I tried to find out on the internet how high exactly but unfortunately I couldn't find it. A friend of mine recommended this place and the panoramic view is just breathtaking. We also had dinner in this old city center in a lovely restaurant called La Giardino. Here I shot the pictures for the outfit below.

Nederlands: Een geweldige dag in Toscane komt weer tot zijn einde. Dit is ook onze laatste avond in hotel Boston en het stadje Montecatini. Morgen zullen we verder reizen en verblijven we voor een nacht in een prachtig hotel dichtbij Lucca. Vanochtend stond Pisa op het programma om te bezichtigen. En ja hoor, ik ben er in geslaagd om de beroemde toren recht te houden ;-). Naast de toren en de Duomo is er wel niet veel te zien in Pisa. Enkele kleine, schattige straatjes en wat winkeltjes. Na een paar uren waren we er dus ook uitgekeken. 

Ik ben echt helemaal verliefd geworden op Toscane maar al het bezichtigen is ook erg vermoeiend. Daarom was het ook echt fijn om eens een namiddag door te brengen aan het zwembad en een beetje te bruinen. 's Avonds zijn we dan Montecatino Alto gaan bezichtigen. Dit is het oudere stadsgedeelte dat zich op een hoge berg bevind. Ik heb proberen op te zoeken hoe hoog precies maar vind het niet meteen. Een vriendin gaf de tip om deze plaats te bezoeken en het panoramisch uitzicht was dan ook adembenemend. We dineerden ook in het oude stadsgedeelte in een geweldig restaurant La Giardino genaamd. Hier fotografeerden we ook onderstaande foto's.

OUTFIT: When in Florence

My second day in Tuscany and what it day it was. My parents and I visited the world famous city of Florence. This city is especially known for its medieval history and the Medici family. When I woke up, the rain was pouring out or the sky so I decided to dress myself warmer. Once we arrived in Florence it was very warm so I regretted this decision a bit.

In the morning we did the most important sightseeing's such as the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio. My father and I bought a ticket to enter the Duomo and climb the chapels. Unfortunately the queue for the climb was very long so we decided to skip on that. Ponte Vecchio was very impressive as well and is an amazing view.

For lunch we headed to the local Hardrock Café. I had a very delicious pizza and my parents ate hamburgers. I really love the rock & roll vibe there and bought myself a T-shirt. It's a nice memory of Florence and a prove I was really there ;-)

In the afternoon my mother and I did some shopping. Florence holds many designer brand stores but they are usually smaller than for example the stores in Milan. I was also so excited to visit the shop Luisa via Roma where I bought the famous Iphone cover from Moschino.

In the evening we had a lovely dinner in the town where we are staying. The restaurant was called La Cascina and served amazing pastas.

Nederlands: Mijn tweede dag in Toscane en wat voor een dag! Mijn ouders en ik bezochte de wereldberoemde stad Firenze. Deze stad is vooral bekend voor zijn middeleeuws verleden en de Medici familie. Toen ik wakker werd, regende het pijpenstelen. Daarom besliste ik om mezelf wat warmer aan te doen. Eens toen we in Firenze waren, werd het echter warm waardoor ik al snel spijt had van mijn beslissing.

In de ochtend zijn we de belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden gaan bezoeken zoals de Duomo en de Ponte Vecchio. Mijn papa en ik kochten een ticket dat ons onder andere voorzag van entree in de Duomo en het beklimmen van één van de kapellen. De rij voor de klim was echter zo lang dat we dit hebben overgeslagen. Ponte Vecchio was erg indrukwekkend en gaf echt een prachtig uitzicht.

Daarna hadden we lunch in het lokale Hardrock Café. Zelf had ik een heerlijke pizza en mijn ouders aten een hamburger. Ik ben echt dol op de rock & roll vibe die hier hangt en kocht dan ook een T-shirt in de souvenirshop. Het is een leuke herinnering aan Firenze en het bewijst dat ik er echt geweest ben ;-)

In de namiddag zijn mama en ik wat gaan shoppen. Firenze heeft veel designer winkels ook al zijn ze over het algemeen ietsjes kleiner dan in Milaan. De winkel Luisa Via Roma bevindt zich hier ook en ik kocht er het beroemde Iphone hoesje van Moschino.

's Avonds aten we een heerlijk avondmaal in het stadje waar we verblijven. Het restaurant heet La Cascina en is een dikke aanrader.

OUTFIT: Colorful Pistoia

I'm writing this blog post from my hotel lobby in Montecantini. Some German hotel guests are quite nosy because the soccer game is on and they can become world champion. I hope Germany will prevail upon Argentina because Argentina beat my country Belgium and honestly they haven't been playing that well.

But back to the point of this post. My parents and I left Belgium Saturday evening to drive by car all the way to Tuscany. I was so glad when we finally arrived in our first hotel in Montecantini. This is a place in Tuscany, well-known for their spa resorts. Since my parents don't like spas, we will probably skip that. In the morning we discovered the local town a bit. It's a small town but has some nice shops with all the high end Italian designer brands. But up until now I stayed good and only bought some nail polishes at Kiko.

In the afternoon we hit the small and older town of Pistoia. There weren't really important sightings there. Still the town had some pretty, old buildings and very cute, little streets. In this town I did my first outfit shoot. Since it was quite sunny I chose to wear my Pinko dress which is very colorful. For my comfort I chose to wear my sandals. What do you think about this outfit?

To close down the evening we went to a nice restaurant next to our hotel where I ate a super delicious hamburger with French fries. Tomorrow my parents and I will check out the most important Tuscan city of all: Florence. Since I'm a history freak, I can't wait to discover everything about the Medici family.
Fashion wise I'm really looking forward to checking out stores such as Louisa via Roma. Who knows what I will buy tomorrow ;-)?

Nederlands: Ik schrijf deze blog post vanuit mijn hotel in Montecantini. Enkele Duitse hotelgasten zijn redelijk luidruchtig aan het supporteren voor hun team in de finale van de Wereldbeker voetbal. Zelf hoop ik ook dat Duitsland Argentinië verslaat, vermits de Argentijnen tegen België hebben gewonnen en ze eigenlijk niet eens zo goed spelen. 

Maar terug naar het doel van deze post. Mijn ouders en ik zijn zaterdagavond vertrokken richting Toscane, het was echt een opluchting om na zoveel uren rijden aan te komen bij ons eerste hotel in Montecantini. Dit stadje is vooral bekend omwille van zijn wellness gelegenheden, al vrees ik dat wij er weinig gebruik van zullen maken. Vanochtend zijn we het lokale stadje wat gaan verkennen. Het is echt een klein stadje maar toch ben ik al verschillende winkels tegen gekomen met prachtige Italiaanse designer merken. Tot nu toe heb ik mij nochtans goed ingehouden en heb ik enkel twee nagellakjes gekocht bij Kiko.

In de late namiddag zijn we het kleinere maar pittoreske stadje Pistoia gaan bezoeken. Echt belangrijke bezienswaardigheden waren hier niet, al hebben we wel genoten van de schattige, kleine straatjes en authentieke gebouwen. Hier hebben we ook mijn eerste outfit shoot gedaan. Het was redelijk zonnig en dus besloot ik mijn kleurrijk jurkje van Pinko aan te trekken. Normaal zou ik dit vervolledigen met hoge hakken maar nu koos ik voor de iets comfortabelere oplossing van sandalen. Wat vind je van deze outfit? 

Om de avond af te sluiten, gingen mijn ouders en ik uiteten in een heerlijk restaurant naast ons hotel. Hier had ik een heel lekkere hamburger met frietjes. Morgen gaan we de belangrijkste Toscaanse stad bezoeken namelijk Firenze. Als geschiedenis freak kan je in deze stad alles te weten komen over de Medici familie. Maar voor de fashionista's is het ook een echt shoppingsparadijs met onder andere Luisa Via Roma. Wie weet met welke buit ik morgen thuis kom :-)?

Shoplog #10

I can hear you thinking: omg, another shoplog? Wasn't Karen supposed to not go shopping anymore until her holiday? Yes, I was. But fade interfered once again. Yesterday evening I was going out with my friends and we walked by the window display of one of my favorite shops in Bilzen: Lowet. I have been craving a Michael Kors Selma bag since forever, duh who doesn't!? Now a mini red Selma bag was on sale. I just couldn't let this bag go and went to the shop this morning. 

The other item, I didn't really buy it but was a bad buy from my mother: a  Clinique chubby stick. I had never used a Chubby Stick before but it's quite handy for when you're on the go. 

Nederlands: Ik hoor jullie al denken: omg, weeral een shoplog? Was het niet de bedoeling dat Karen niet meer ging shoppen voor haar vakantie? Ja, dat was dus wel de bedoeling. Maar het "lot" kwam er tussen. Gisterenavond ging ik nog op stap met enkele vrienden en liepen we voorbij de etalage van één van mijn favoriete winkels in Bilzen: Lowet. Ik wil al zolang een Selma tas van Michael Kors, duh wie wilt dat nu niet!? Nu hing er een rode mini Selma tas in de solden. Ik kon deze tas gewoonweg niet achterlaten en ben hem dan vanmorgen ook onmiddellijk gaan kopen.

Het andere item heb ik niet echt gekocht en was eerder een miskoop van mijn mama: een Clinique Chubby Stick. Ik had nog nooit eerder een Chubby Stick gebruikt en ik moet zeggen dat hij best wel handig is om snel je lippen bij te werken.

REVIEW: Rituals beauty products

Recently I received a beauty packet from Rituals, gifted to me by Curls and Bags. I was really excited to receive this package since I'm a huge fan of Rituals. I must admit that so far I had only used their body range and not their make-up range. But thanks to this packet I finally got to try out their make-up as well. Below I'll review all the products.

Nederlands: Onlangs ontvang ik een beautypakket van Rituals via Curls and Bags. Vermits ik een grote Rituals fan ben, was het echt fijn om deze wedstrijd te winnen. Ik moet toegeven dat ik in grote mate enkel hun lichaamsverzorgingsgamma heb uitgeprobeerd. Maar dankzij dit pakketje kon ik me nu eindelijk ook wagen aan de make-up. Hieronder vind je mijn bevindingen van de producten terug.

Shower oil Flowers of India limited edition

The Summer Bliss shower oil contains a lot of nursing ingredients and different kinds of natural oil. The oil foams slightly when mixed with water. The oil feels great and after my shower my skin feels really soft. Plus point for the pretty bottle!

Nederlands: De Summer Bliss douche olie bevat veel verzorgende ingrediënten en verschillende soorten natuurlijke oliën. De olie schuimt lichtjes wanneer hij gemengd wordt met water. De olie voelt geweldig aan en na het douchen, voelt mijn huid daadwerkelijk zachter aan. Pluspunten nog vanwege de mooie verpakking!

Sensational soft cleanser

This product is from Rituals' new skin-care line, released last October. I'm quit picky when it comes down to face cleansers. After all they have to make sure you go to bed with a clean face and pores. I applied the gel to my skin and spread it out with my fingers. You see that the cleanser becomes kind of oily when you spread it. Afterwards I cleaned my wash with water. If you mix the gel with water, you get a milky lotion. 

Because the gel changes into oil, make-up is easily removed. Since my skin is very oily on its own I still use my own face cleanser prescribed for me by a professional beauty institution. After using the Rituals sensational soft cleanser my skin feels indeed soft.

Nederlands: Dit product komt uit de nieuwe verzorgingslijn van Rituals, die afgelopen oktober op de markt kwam. Ik ben redelijk kieskeuring wat betreft gezichtsreinigers. Zo moeten toch wel goed werk verrichten om je gezicht en poriën te reinigen na een zware dag. Ik bracht de gel aan op mijn huid en verspreidde deze met mijn vingers. Op de foto's zie je dat de cleaner verandert in een olieachtige structuur. Daarna spoelde ik mijn gezicht af met water. Als je de gel mengt met water, krijg je een melkachtige lotion. Omdat de gel verandert in olie, wordt de make-up ook makkelijk verwijderd. Doordat mijn huid ook al erg vettig is, blijft ik toch nog steeds met eigen cleaner, voorgeschreven door een professioneel beauty instituut, gebruiken. Mijn huid voelde inderdaad wel zachter aan na het gebruik van de Rituals Sensational Soft Cleanser.

Matt Finish Foundation nr° 11

Unfortunately I won't be able to review this product. In the picture below you can see on the left side the Rituals foundation which is very pale. On the right side you see the Guerlian foundation I use. I looked awful with the foundation. Luckily Rituals offers different shades, so in the future I might try out a different shade.

Nederlands: Helaas kan ik dit product niet beoordelen. In de foto hieronder zie je dat je links op mijn hand de Rituals foundation, die erg bleek is. Rechts zijn je mijn eigen foundation van Guerlain. De bleke foundation zag er echt verschrikkelijk uit mijn gezicht. Gelukkige biedt Rituals verschillende tinten aan dus in de toekomst kan ik misschien wel eens een donkerdere tint uitproberen.

Eye make-up

The Rituals package included a purple eye star secret eye pencil and the Perfection Volume Mascara. I did already use the mascara before and I'm quite pleased with it, a purple eye pencil was completely new for me.

The Star Secret Eye pencil is from the "Oriental Dream" range. The collection consists out of warm and bright colors. When I swatched the color on my hand, I could really appreciate the density of the color. On my eye it's less visible so that's a tiny bit disappointing since I'm a huge fan of visible make-up. The plus side from this pencil is that it includes a little sponge to correct mistakes.

The Perfection Volume Mascara is in a very beautiful packaging and catches the eye immediately. The brush is really classic but efficient. No special curly hairs,... When applying the mascara you have to be very careful because it smears easily and leaves stains easily. The mascara also clots a bit on your lashes. If you manage to apply the mascara carefully, the result is quite pleasing tough. 

To finish off the look I used the "Blue Marine" eye shadow palette. I usually only use my golden eye shadow so this chance up was quite welcome. Unfortunately my picture is not very clear, I'm really sorry but I had to take all the pictures myself. The eye shadow applied quite easily although the brushes were a bit stiff. I love the blue and white mix on my eyes and I think it suits my natural eye color.

Nederlands: Het Star Secret oog potlood is van het "Oriental Dream" gamma. Deze collectie bestaat uit warme en felle kleuren. Toen ik de kleur uitprobeerde op mijn hand, wist ik de helderheid van de kleur nog wel te appreciëren. Op mijn oog is de kleur echter een heel stuk minder zichtbaar en dit is toch wel een beetje teleurstellend. Zeker omdat ik net houd van felle make-up. Een pluspunt is dan weer dat dit potlood ook een klein sponsje heeft voor het corrigeren van foutjes.

De Perfection Volume Mascara is erg mooi verpakt en valt meteen op. Het borsteltje is erg klassiek en efficiënt. Geen speciale, krullende haartjes,... Als je de mascara aanbrengt, moet je wel erg voorzichtig zijn want hij loopt snel uit en laat vlekken achter onder het oog. De mascara klontert ook een beetje in de wimpers. Als je de mascara echt heel voorzichtig aanbrengt, krijg je uiteindelijk toch een degelijk resultaat.

Om de look af te maken, gebruikte ik nog het "Bleu Marine" oogschaduw palet. Normaal gebruik ik enkel gouden oogschaduw, dus deze afwisseling was meer dan welkom. Helaas is de foto niet erg duidelijk vermits ik alle foto's zelf moest nemen. De oogschaduw was redelijk gemakkelijk in gebruik ook al waren de borsteltjes een beetje aan de stijve kant. Persoonlijk vind ik dat de mix van blauw en wit wel goed bij me staat.

Peachy lipstick

The last product I will be reviewing is a lipstick in a peachy kind of shade. As you probably will already have noticed in my previous reviews, I like very bright lipsticks. So this one isn't really my shade, from far away someone wouldn't probably even notice that I'm wearing lipstick.

But I was pleasantly surprised by the easy application of the lipstick. It doesn't smear and stays on quite long. I would really like to try out some other shade of the Rituals lipstick range to see if this suits me better.

Nederlands: Het laatste product dat ik zal beoordelen is een lippenstift met een perzikachtige kleur. Trouwe lezers zullen wel al doorhebben dat ik meer hou van kleurrijke lippenstiften, dus deze tint was niet echt mijn ding. Van ver zag je zelfs niet eens dat ik lippenstift op had.
Wel moet ik opmerken dat de lippenstift erg makkelijk aan te brengen is en niet zelf uitloopt. Ook blijft hij behoorlijk lang zitten. Ik hoop snel een andere tint van het Rituals gamma uit te kunnen proberen, zonder twijfel zal deze mij beter bevallen.

Shoplog #9

Time for yet another shoplog. I know I planned on not spending too much money anymore before my holiday but I found some great and cheap basic pieces that I really needed in my wardrobe. I'm already wondering what I will be buying in Tuscany next week.

Nederlands: Tijd voor weeral een shoplog. Ik weet dat ik al een aantal keren vermeld heb dat ik ging proberen om niet meer te veel geld uit te geven voordat ik op vakantie ging maar ik vond nog enkele goedkope basisstukken die ik echt nodig had. Ik kijk nu al uit naar al het shoppen van volgende week in Toscane.

This DKNY bag is actually not mine's but my mothers. I have to admit a totally love it and since I don't have a black and white bag, I suppose I will be using it regularly as well. 

Nederlands Deze DKNY tas is eigenlijk niet van mij maar van mijn mama. Al moet ik toegegeven dat ik de tas geweldig vind en vermits ik zelf geen zwart/witte tas heb, vermoed ik dat deze wel regelmatig zal lenen. Mama kocht hem in de solden bij de Bijenkorf. 

I have been looking for a jeans shirt for a while and I finally found my match at H&M.

Nederlands: Ik was al een tijdje aan het zoeken naar een jeans hemd en eindelijk heb ik mijn perfecte match gevonden bij H&M.

In one of my previous shoplogs I showed you the white ripped jeans from Zara. This jeans is so comfortable and fits so great. My mother bought me the grey version as well.

Nederlands: In één van mijn vorige shoplogs toonde ik al de witte, gescheurde jeans die ik kocht bij Zara. Deze jeans is zo comfortabel en past geweldig. Daarom heeft mijn mama me de grijze versie ook nog gekocht
